One of the most helpful, non-therapeutic, approaches to working with anxiety

Huge Beyonce fan here – anyone else?

Anyhow – did you know that Beyonce has an alter ego called Sasha Fierce – the same name as her album?

Interestingly when she talks about ‘stepping into’ Sasha – she says:

“She doesn’t do interviews, she only performs. It’s kind of like doing a movie. When you put on the wig and put on clothes, you walk different”

Here’s what I love about this.

What she is describing is that she steps into a different alter ego who is ‘programmed’ differently.

In fact, the programme that she took upon herself, even meant she upstaged Prince….

“But I was so scared and in my shell in rehearsals. But on the stage I didn’t even give him the mic,” she continued. “And I just thought…and I said, ‘What was…what is that? The mic is supposed to be in the middle, not in front of my mouth. But that was Sasha. She took over. I did his, ‘Ooah,’ and I was like, ‘No, I didn’t just do that. That’s his thing.’ But I was able to watch it like it wasn’t me.”

Here’s the thing though.

Beyonce also, get this, binned Sasha Fierce – “I killed her” because she simply matured out of her alter ego. “I don’t need Sasha Fierce anymore, because I’ve grown and now I’m able to merge the two”

I’ve spoken before about the fake it until you are it. You can REWIRE yourself through imagining it. Through continuously stepping into the person you want to be – you can become anyone.

It is one of the most helpful, NON-THERAPEUTIC, approaches to working with anxiety.

It’s something anyone can do.

Much love, Tricia xxx
